Dinante, Belguim, March 2019

During a visit to Alex and John, Alex took us to the Dinant, known for its Citadel, Leffe Beer and the saxophone!

Visiting the Citadel in the beautiful little town of Dinant. A very long climb up to to top.
The current fort was build in 1815 on a site which was originally fortified in 1051 when the region was rule by the Prince-bishop of Liege. the citadel overlooks the city of Dinant and the strategic Meuse river, which runs through the town.

Up up up we go!

View from the citadel with the town Dinant

View of the river Meuse from the citadel.

Alex and Carl posing with the river Meuse in the background. Carl is getting ideas about boating on the rivers again!

Looking up to the citadel from the town. A glimpse of the saxophones decorating the town.

Lunch at a restaurant. Leffe beer of course, this is the home of Leffe.

But for me, much more exciting, Dinant is the home of the Adoiphe Sax, who in 1848 developed the saxophone. Carl showing the first saxophones at the free museum in the town.

And the town is full of saxophones, beautiful. Just wish they were all playing!

And that concludes an interesting and lovely visit to Dinant with Alex and Carl.
